Baby Waterman: Week 38

How Far Along? 38 weeks

Size of the Baby: Winter Melon (19.6 inches, 6.61 pounds according to The Bump app)

Gender: BOY!!

Weight Gain: +30 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Yes!
Nursery: I think that his nursery is almost done!  While Mark was here, he hung the curtains which was one of the last things that I needed to check off of our to-do list.  I cannot believe that he will be living in that room so soon!

Movement: Lots and lots of giant movements!  While the contractions have made it difficult at times to pinpoint what are his movements and what are contractions, when I lay down at night there is no mistaking him moving all around.  (Especially when his daddy wants to kiss all over my belly--that makes him go crazy!)

Symptoms: Still having contractions on and off, LOTS of indigestion--I feel like I am surviving off of Tums and Zantac.

Sleep: No sleep for me--luckily, I have been able to grab a few naps during the day with Elli that has made me stay somewhat sane!

Cravings/Aversions: The only thing that I have been craving is an ice-cold Coke.  The carbonation makes me feel a little better with my indigestion and it just tastes good!  I have a feeling that I am going to have a hard time giving up sodas again after this pregnancy.

What I Miss: Nothing!

Best Moment of the Week: This week has just been overall surreal for us.  Everyday I think, this is the last Thursday, Friday, etc. without him being here with us and it just takes me aback every time I think that.  We have tried to enjoy our time together and with just Elli.  On Saturday, Tom and I went to see Beauty and the Beast (so good, by the way!) and we both were stunned thinking that that was our last date without having a baby!  I have loved getting to spend my days while Tom is at work loving on Elli and giving her lots of attention.  I am trying not to think that she is going to get less attention when he is here or that she may resent us for bringing a baby home.  I really want her to still feel loved and cared for and most importantly that she is not being replaced.  She has been our priority for 8 wonderful years and she is most definitely still an important member of our family!

Looking Forward To: Seeing what our baby looks like when he arrives!!

Baby Waterman: Week 37

How Far Along? 37 weeks

Size of the Baby: Romaine Lettuce (18.9 inches, 6.17 pounds according to The Bump app)

Gender: BOY!!

Weight Gain: +30 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Yes!
Nursery: After my trip to Labor and Delivery last week, I went a little crazy ordering things off of our registry to feel like I was making progress on his nursery.  Once Tom was home from his trip, he really helped me get everything done in his room!  Lots of loads of laundry, getting equipment set up, and just overall organizing and I think we are almost ready for him!

Movement: Lots and lots of movements and they are all extremely painful since he is running out of room!

Symptoms: Haha, where do I start with this one?!  Mark came up to stay with us starting on Wednesday, March 8 (the day I flipped to 37 weeks).  That night, I started having pretty consistent contractions.  I kept track of them by using the stopwatch on my phone.  They still hadn't let up in the morning, so I kept track of them in the notes section on my phone.  They consistently stayed about 4 minutes apart and when I called my doctor, they told me to head over to Labor and Delivery.  We were there for several hours.  They checked me when I first got there (2.5 cm dilated, -1 station, and 70% effaced according to the nurse who checked me) and then monitored me for a little bit to see how intense my contractions were.  After awhile, they had me walk around the wing for 2 hours to see if it would kickstart a more intense labor.  Unfortunately, when they checked me after the 2 hours, nothing had progressed, despite still having contractions every 2 minutes.  They sent me home with instructions to come back if my water broke or if the contractions became so intense that I couldn't walk or talk through them.

My mom and sister headed up from North Carolina that night, just in case I wasn't going to make it through the weekend without going into labor.  We went on lots of walks, tried all sorts of labor inducing tactics, and just had lots of waiting and watching.  The contractions continued and actually go intense enough on Saturday for Tom and I to make a return trip to Labor and Delivery.  Unfortunately upon being checked there, I hadn't progressed at all and my contractions were extremely inconsistent.  So we got sent home again.

Sleep: No sleep for me this week with all of the contractions--I have actually been trying to take a Benedryl to help with my crazy congestion and it actually is helping me to fall asleep for at least a little bit at night before I get woken up from the contractions.

Cravings/Aversions: No real cravings this week...honestly I'm not that hungry and have to really make it a point to eat dinner each night.

What I Miss: Nothing!

Best Moment of the Week: Having family in town just in case baby boy decided to make his appearance.  Even though I felt bad that they made a wasted trip since he wasn't ready to come out yet, it was nice getting to spend some time with everyone.  Plus we had some good food!

Our 37 week appointment was also a giant highlight--the doctor measured my progress at almost 3 cm dilated, 0 station, and about 80% effaced.  I was still having consistent contractions and since we had already made three trips to Labor and Delivery for preterm labor, she went ahead and had us schedule an induction for the day I turn 39 weeks.  At our hospital, they cannot offer "help" for mom's in labor until they are 39 weeks along or if they show signs of progress.  Well since little man wants to come out as evidenced by his determination to drop so early and start the dilation progress, but just doesn't want to advance any further, she said that the next step was to schedule an induction.  We are definitely a little shocked that he will be here either Wednesday or Thursday, but I am definitely relieved to see an end in sight.  I have loved every minute of being pregnant, but having to deal with contractions for going on two weeks is a lot!

Looking Forward To: Getting to meet our little guy!

Baby Waterman: Week 36

How Far Along? 36 weeks

Size of the Baby: Papaya (18.7 inches, 5.73 pounds according to The Bump app)

Gender: BOY!!

Weight Gain: +30 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Yes!
Nursery: My plan was to spend the weekend working on the baby's nursery while Tom was away on a work trip, but baby had other ideas!  I was on a self-imposed bed rest (well imposed by my mother-in-law over at their house), but more on that below.

Movement: Lots and lots of movement, coupled with some contractions.

Symptoms: Well, where do I start?  Wednesday (March 1) I was afraid that my water had broken while I was at work.  I called the on-call nurse at my OB's office and she advised to watch my symptoms for two hours and call back to report what I was seeing.  I left work early so that I could be home to monitor the situation and then I called back.  They advised me to head on over to Labor and Delivery so they could test to see if my water had actually broken, especially since my labs had come back positive for Strep B, so if I was in labor, they needed to start the antibiotics quickly.  I called my mother-in-law to see if she would take me to the hospital, since Tom was out of town.  We spent a few hours in the hospital, where it was determined that my water had not broken, but I was having contractions about every ten minutes.  We got discharged and my mother-in-law told me that I was going to spend the rest of the week and the weekend with them to make sure that I wasn't going to go into labor (and she knew if I was home alone, I would have kept going to work and doing too much around the house).

I continued having contractions the rest of the week/weekend, but they slowly started to dissipate.  Needless to say, my last day at work was me running out the door afraid that I had gone into labor.  It was definitely not how I wanted my last day to be, but they knew that I needed to take care of myself and baby.

Sleep: Sleep has not been happening.  Naps in the afternoon are about the only way I am not a walking zombie!

Cravings/Aversions: No real cravings this week...honestly I'm not that hungry and have to really make it a point to eat dinner each night.

What I Miss: Nothing!

Best Moment of the Week: After the excitement of going to Labor and Delivery without Tom, the best moment of the week was finding out that he was not going to have to travel for work the following week to Pittsburgh.  That was a major weight off of my shoulders!

Our 36 week appointment was also a wonderful highlight of the week--the ultrasound showed that he was already up to 6 lbs. 7 oz.  I had also progressed a little further--around 70% effaced, between 2-3 cm dilated, and 0 station.  We had definitely made a lot of progress!

Looking Forward To: Our 37 week appointment (if we make it to it!)

Baby Waterman: Week 35

How Far Along? 35 weeks

Size of the Baby: Pineapple (18.1 inches, 5.07 pounds according to The Bump app)

Gender: BOY!!

Weight Gain: +30 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Yes!
Nursery: We spent more time working on his nursery.  I feel like it is slowly coming together, but I really want to just blink and it would be finished and ready for his arrival.

Movement: He is still moving up a storm!  The movements are becoming pretty painful and I felt pretty confident on Sunday that he had started moving down further (he has been head down for a few weeks).

Symptoms: Still just tired, sore hips, and indigestion at night when I'm trying to sleep.

Sleep: Sleep this week has been pretty hit or miss.  Some days I can sleep through the night and others I am wide awake.

Cravings/Aversions: No real cravings this week...honestly I'm not that hungry and have to really make it a point to eat dinner each night.

What I Miss: Nothing!

Best Moment of the Week: My baby shower at work--I cannot believe all of the love I felt at my shower.  It makes me so sad to think that I will not be coming back to work after baby is here, but luckily we are taking him to the practice so I will still be seeing lots of them!

Our 35 week appointment--the doctor confirmed that I have already started making progress.  I was 2 cm dilated, -1 station.  Baby boy's heartbeat was 162 bpm.  The doctor told us that there was no way I was going to make it to my due date, she predicted 2 more weeks maximum!  She went ahead and had us schedule an ultrasound before our next appointment to check on his growth.

Looking Forward To: Our next doctor's appointment and getting his room completely set up!

Baby Waterman: Week 34

How Far Along? 34 weeks

Size of the Baby: Butternut Squash (17.7 inches, 4.63 pounds according to The Bump app)

Gender: BOY!!

Weight Gain: +29 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Yes!
Nursery: We spent a lot of time over the weekend continuing to sort through things and took a few loads to Goodwill.  It feels so good to get rid of stuff that we don't need/haven't used in forever!

Movement: He is constantly on the move...some movements are getting painful because they are so intense.

Symptoms: This week it was just my usual pregnancy symptoms--mild congestion, sore hips, and being very tired.

Sleep: Sleep has been pretty awful--I am constantly either having to get up to go to the bathroom, struggling to rollover, or dealing with indigestion.  It is all worth it!

Cravings/Aversions: No real cravings this week...honestly I'm not that hungry and have to really make it a point to eat dinner each night.

What I Miss: Nothing!

Best Moment of the Week: Our doctor's appointment on Monday (February 20).  We got to have another ultrasound and he looked really good--they estimated his weight at 5 lbs. 7 oz., the ultrasound tech could see hair, and his head was measuring about a week and a half ahead of schedule!  Baby boy's heartbeat was strong at 146 BPM and he is definitely still a boy!

Looking Forward To: Our 35 week appointment on Monday and my baby shower at work on Friday.  I cannot believe we are at the point where we are going to the doctor every week!

Baby Waterman: Week 33

How Far Along? 33 weeks

Size of the Baby: Celery (17.2 inches, 4.19 pounds according to The Bump app)

Gender: BOY!!

Weight Gain: +27 pounds

Maternity Clothes: Yes!
Nursery: We worked a little more on the nursery this weekend.  We are still trying to clean out a lot of stuff that has been stored in that room for the past three and a half years, while trying to get his stuff set up.  We did finally unbox his Mamaroo this weekend and that was so neat to see set up!

Movement: He is constantly on the move...some movements are getting painful because they are so intense.

Symptoms: This week it was just my usual pregnancy symptoms--mild congestion, sore hips, and being very tired.

Sleep: Sleep has actually been slightly better...except for Saturday morning where I was wide awake at 5:30 AM (on a day I could have slept in a little).

Cravings/Aversions: No real cravings this week...honestly I'm not that hungry and have to really make it a point to eat dinner each night.

What I Miss: Nothing!

Best Moment of the Week: The weather over the weekend here was absolutely beautiful and Tom, Elli, and I went on three very long walks.  I sure miss running, but walking outside with my family in the sunshine was good for this pregnant lady!

Looking Forward To: Our 34 week appointment on Monday and getting to see little man again!
