Monday Brain Dump

Happy Monday, Y'all!

I feel like I have a million things in my head lately and am constantly forgetting things.  I have an ongoing list on my desk at work of things I need to do, shopping lists, etc. that is at least keeping me sane!  So, this post is going to be a hodge podge of what is going on in our lives lately...

  • Can anyone else not believe that it is almost JUNE?! I feel like this year is flying by...next month is our one year anniversary!  I feel like it was just yesterday that we were planning everything out and now it's  almost been one whole year!!
  • I got a new iPhone last weekend, so it's strange to open up my photos and only see 33 pictures, when my old iPhone was always at 2,000+ pictures.  But don't worry, I downloaded the app Dropbox and it automatically uploads all of my pictures so I have access to them from my laptop, desktop, and iPhone.  {I had too many pictures to use the Cloud without having to pay for it!}
  • For Mother's Day last week, we went over to Tom's parents' house and cooked breakfast for them.  Elli absolutely adores their dog, Simba, and they used to play and wrestle with each other when they were younger.  Now, they nap.
    Aren't they so sweet?!
  • For Mother's Day for Tom's mom, we gave her this wine.  I thought it was absolutely hysterical when we saw it in the store!

  • We are loving this warm weather that has finally settled itself here in Eastern Virginia!  Although it is raining today, we have had some fantastic days that we can leave our porch door open and Elli has enjoyed being able to lay out there and people watch {and occasionally bark at people}.

  • They have really started to make some progress with our townhome.  We get so excited to walk by it in the evenings and see what all they have done on it!  I guess that is a huge advantage to buying in the same neighborhood that we already live in!

  • The sunset was absolutely breathtaking on our walk the other night.  This is not the best picture, but the colors were magnificent!

  • Tom laughs at me everytime I want to buy Elli a new toy.  I'll admit, she does have a ton of toys, but she treats each and every one like a baby and will pick out one toy and that is the only one she wants to play with for the day.  Yesterday, it was a reindeer stuffed animal {Clarice from Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer} that she got for Christmas that she would not put down and was cuddling it.

  • I have been a reading machine lately!  I read the entire Hunger Games series, the new Women's Murder Club book {12th of Never}, and the last-ever Sookie Stackhouse book {Dead Ever After}.  I can honestly say that all of these books were fantastic!  I could not put any of the Hunger Games books down--I could not find a decent stopping point in any of them.  It got to the point where I had to stop mid-chapter because each chapter would end with a cliff hanger and then I would dream all night about what would happen next!!  The newest Women's Murder Club book was so good!  If you have read the series, you will not be disappointed in the book!  Now for Dead Ever After, I will tell you that it didn't end how I had originally wanted it to end.  I mean, I have read the entire series and kind-of built it up in my head how I wanted the series to end and who I wanted Sookie to end up with.  But, I am very happy with how it ended.  Loose ends were tied up and I feel very satisfied with how it ended.  Don't you hate when books leave you going "What in the world?!"--this one definitely does not!!
Well, I think that is enough babble for one post!  I hope that y'all had a fantastic weekend and that your weeks are off to a great start!

Books for 2013

I love reading.  I have always been an avid reader, even though in high school and college I fell off the reading wagon because of all the work I had to do!  I remember reading all of the Nancy Drew series by the time I was in fourth grade and looking forward to the Book Fair every year.

So far this year, I have finished reading the Harry Potter series and am well on my way of completing the Hunger Games trilogy.  I have two books left that I am definitely going to read: 12th of Never {the newest Women's Murder Club book by James Patterson} and Dead Ever After {the soon-to-be-released last book in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris}.  After that, I have no idea what I should read!

Does anyone have any suggestions of good books/series that I should check out?  I tend to lean more towards mystery/thriller books, but would be open to anything!

You can check out what I have read this year and what I'm currently reading in my sidebar!  I try to keep it as current as possible so I can keep track of everything that I have read.

What I've Been Up To

Long time, no blogging.  That seems to be a pattern that I just cannot break--I'm not sure if I just don't know what to blog about or what, but I have got to get back in the saddle! I really miss blogging!

Last weekend, Tom surprised me with tickets to go see Les Miserables in Norfolk.  I had such a wonderful time!  It had been so long since I had seen a Broadway musical {the last time was when I went to New York in 9th grade and saw Hairspray and Wicked} and even though this one was technically off-Broadway, it was unbelievable!  I now remember why I loved them so much!  I joked that he had created a monster because they have season passes you can buy to see all of their shows--next season Mamma Mia and Chicago are coming through.  Maybe I can convince him to at least buy me tickets to one {or both} of those shows!!

Tom and I are currently in the process of buying a townhome.  It is a new-construction, so new, in fact, that they are just now starting to build it.  I don't want to say too much, because we are just now in the process of signing all of the necessary loan papers and don't want to jinx us!  That sounds so silly typing out, but I am just so excited!  We are buying in the same neighborhood that our apartment is {in fact, we can see the job site from our building} and are so excited that we get to stay pretty much where we are!

{I am trying to take progress pictures...}

{This is what the building will look like, but it will be different colors!}

Tom and I have found a new wine that I am absolutely loving!  It is ever so slightly bubbled and it is just so light and refreshing and perfect for a warm evening!  We found this at Harris Teeter.

I saw this scarf on ModCloth and knew that I had to have it!  We love seafood and love having steamed crabs during the summer and just thought it was perfect!

I saw these Tory Burch sunglasses at TJ Maxx for $49.99.  They had been stretched out and were too big for my head, which makes me so sad because they were absolutely adorable on!  Maybe they'll have more next time I go in!

This IS what I walked away from TJ Maxx with...

The red wedges reminded me of a pair from Kate Spade that I loved, but could not justify the price.  These are BCBG and were must more friendly on my wallet!  Tom and I are packing our lunches more frequently and I thought these were such cool containers--the salad goes in the bottom container and you put your salad toppings in the top tray and then there's a little dressing container.  And, I'm just a sucker for fun cocktail napkins!

I found these adorable notebooks at Target and had a hard time just walking away with two.  If you've been reading my blog for any bit of time, you know that I am absolutely obsessed with office supplies.  Through in polka dots and I am sold!  These are perfect mini notebooks and I love that they are spiral bound!

I hope that everyone has a fantastic Monday!!
