Wedding Weekend in DC

This past weekend, Tom's cousin got married up near DC.  Tom and I took Friday off of work and followed his parents up to DC for the festivities.  I tried my best to be a "good blogger" and take lots of pictures, but somehow the rehearsal dinner on Friday got away from me without taking any pictures!  I tried to redeem myself on Saturday and take a lot as I was getting ready!

We had such a fun weekend getting to spend time with each other {which is always wonderful since we seem to always be busy with work or projects around the house} and his family.  We even saw some flurries {even though we got more snow back home} which always makes things wonderful!

{I promise I am not green or yellow, the lights in the hotel room were horrible!!}

{Watching NCIS and waiting until it is time to get my dress on and finish my makeup!}

{Ready to go! Sidenote--I have no idea why I look so angry...I promise I wasn't!!}

{We tried to get a good picture before we left}

{I am a self-proclaimed lover of any clothing that is black.  Which doesn't mean it has to be boring! I wore an all-black outfit {minus a fun cardigan} to the wedding, but it had tons of different textures and patterns.  My grandmother got me this clutch from J. Crew back in high school and I love to find special occasions to use it for!  The dress is from the Loft outlet earlier this winter and is too cute in person!}

{At the reception with my handsome hubby!}

 {This happened about ten minutes after we were home...I am all about yoga pants, comfy old t-shirts, and hot tea!}

{Our sweet girl was absolutely exhausted after coming home to us from the dog sitter.  She lined her most prized toys up and fell asleep.  Sweet angel!}

We had such a fun time getting away and enjoying time together and with Tom's family!

Valentine's Day Recap

For Valentine's Day this year, Tom and I decided to skip presents.  We went a little crazy at Christmas and wanted to go to dinner and a movie instead of splurging on presents.  We did get each other cards and some candy, though!

Since we don't get home until 6:30 or later on work nights, we decided to go to an 8:50 showing of the new Die Hard movie.  I figured that gave us plenty of time to grab dinner and hopefully it was late enough that it wouldn't be crowded. Boy, was I wrong on both accounts!

We had time to grab Five Guys quickly before the showing.  It might not have been a five-star restaurant, but let me tell you, those burgers sure hit the spot!  We even had fifteen minutes to spare after we bought the tickets!  We got some decent seat in the theater--in the middle of the row, just like I like it so I can see! Wouldn't you know a party of 8 decides to sit right next to us!  I wanted to scoot a seat over but wasn't sure how to do it without being rude, so I just dealt with it {then they talked the whole move...ugh!}.  The movie was really good--I have enjoyed all of the movies in the Die Hard franchise, so it's what you expect!

I sent out this card via text message because I totally dropped the ball and forgot to mail Valentine's cards out...Oops!

What did y'all do for Valentine's Day?  Seen any good movies lately--either rental or in the theater?  We are always looking for a good one!

One Wish...

I really wish that my hair could always look like I just got it cut.  For real, y'all.  I have zero talent when it comes to achieving the "perfect blow-out".

This was just after my recent haircut...I seriously would love if I could have hair like this everyday!

{Excuse t-shirt and zero makeup!}

Chalkboard DIY

I pinned this print on Pinterest a few weeks ago because I just absolutely love this song!  I was thinking about printing it out and framing it, but we have seriously zero space to put picture frames in our home, so I had to come up with something else.

I have been wanting to DIY a chalkboard to put up on one of the walls for a really long time but just never got around to doing it.  Last Sunday I really just got antsy and had to do it THAT DAY.  {Am I the only one that obsesses about something until I finally do it??}

Tom and I headed over to Goodwill to see if I could find a really pretty picture frame with a wood back {apparently that is the best to paint chalkboard paint over}.  Unfortunately, The Will did not have anything like that.  However, my fabulous husband found a good sized, wood framed chalkboard.  So, $3.25 later, I had my chalkboard.  I was not, however, all about the wood frame.  A quick trip to Walmart for acrylic paint and a foam brush solved that problem!

I chose to paint it a bone/off-white color to still be neutral but not blend in with our walls.

{Please ignore my clutter!}

I am so excited to change out the sayings with each season or my mood!!

Snow Day

Two Fridays ago, the meteorologists were calling for snow.  We had already been fooled twice before with snow forecasts, as well as teased with 70+ degree days, so we did not have our hopes up.

The snow was supposed to start at 1:00 {which is my lunch break} so I spent my entire lunch break sipping on a venti non-fat caramel latte waiting--hoping for snow.

Unfortunately, the great blizzard of 2013 did not arrive at 1:00...

Fast forward to 3:00.

Man, oh man, did 3:00 hit like a giant white fluffy blanket right out of the dryer.

I ran to look out the window when the first trickle of kids came through the office shouting "IT'S SNOWING OUTSIDE!" in the excited voices that only kids can muster.

It was absolutely pouring snow--giant, beautiful snowflakes!  The parking lot of the pediatrician's office that I work at was completely covered in thirty minutes!  Whispers of closing early spread through the office, but we decided to wait until all of the patients had left to go home.

I live about fifteen to twenty minutes away from work on a day with moderate traffic.  It took me over an hour and a half to make it home.  It took poor Tom {we live about forty-five minutes away from his work} three and a half hours to get home from work--and he left at 3:00!

I was so happy when my little family was all together and we could truly start to enjoy the snow!

Elli absolutely loved it!  It was not her first snow, but I think it was the first one that she really could go outside and enjoy herself in.  Friday night, we let her off of the leash next to our apartment building and she ran atomic circles around the snow, sticking her nose in the snow, and occasionally wiping out because she was running so hard.  I was so overjoyed seeing how absolutely happy she was.

Apparently the excitement of snow had not worn off the next morning, either!  We took her out early before the neighborhood kids would disturb the snow and she absolutely took off when she saw that there was still snow on the ground!

Our snow day of 2013 was absolutely magical!  I was so happy that it fell on a Friday night/Saturday morning so that Tom and I didn't have to worry about work and we could enjoy time with our little girl!
