Quick Update!

Tom and I headed back to North Carolina today so that I can get my stitches out tomorrow (I seriously need to switch my doctors up to Virginia!).  It was such a long trip!  We stopped by the Tanger Outlets in Mebane (got a new pair of jeans from J. Crew...their jeans are the best!) and then we had to go to Zales to get my ring inspected.

We rode in rain the entire way but once we got about twenty minutes from my house, it started really pouring, thundering and lightening, and the wind really picked up!  The traffic came to a stand still and I just assumed there had been a wreck because the conditions were so bad.  Much to my surprise, a TREE had fallen onto the highway!  I tried to take a picture as we were driving past it...
This was just the beginning of the tree...it took up the entire right lane!
When we got off of the highway, we saw the a transformer blow and I decided we needed to swing by mom's house and make sure everything was okay.  As I had assumed, the power was out!

For dinner, Tom and I went over to my grandparents' house.  My granddad (Poppop) made homemade bolognese sauce.  It was absolutely delicious! For dessert, my grandmother baked a homemade strawberry cake that was heavenly!! I love getting home cooked meals!! :)

Luckily, when we got home the power was back on!! Yay!!

My doctor's appointment is tomorrow morning with Gary the PA (I'm not trying to degrade the man, I honestly don't know his last name because that is how he introduced himself...not quite sure of my opinion on him...not quite my cup of tea).  Hopefully I will get a clean bill of health and the stitches will come out!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Don't forget to link-up for Monday's Style File below!!

Monday's Style File: Mila Kunis

I decided to create a weekly link-up for everyone that is constantly bookmarking pictures of celebrities that serve as style inspiration for future outfits.  I know I for one have huge files on my computer of celebrities that I love and styles that I want to try.  If you follow me on Pinterest, you have probably seen my board called "Celebrity Style File" where I pin every celebrity style that I am loving and itching to re-create!!

This week I'm featuring Mila Kunis.

I love that she can dress completely sexy, but some aspect about what she is wearing makes it still stay sweet and wholesome.  She can do a plunging neckline, but in a soft pastel color and its not too sexy...it's just right.

To see all of the celebrity styles I love, check out my Pinterest board!

Now, grab my button, link-up, and show us the celebrity style that you are loving this week!

Just for Fun!

I found this survey over at Love from Texas and thought it would be something fun to do, especially for all of my new followers!  Maybe y'all will learn something new about me...

1. If you could be given ANY gift what would it be?

I would love to know that I will live a purposeful life, full of happiness and joy and that my future children will have the same opportunities that I have been afforded.

2. What was the last film that really moved/disturbed/thrilled you and why?

Black Swan.  Even though it has been months since I have seen it, it was the last movie that really moved/disturbed/thrilled me (if you have seen it, you know that the movie makes you feel all of these!). If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it...it's definitely suspenseful and a psychological thriller but it is very good!

3. What is your favorite TV show of all time--if you've seen them all, can watch it over and over and quote lines from it?

Without a doubt Friends is that show for me!  I constantly am re-watching seasons 1-10 and Tom and I constantly refer to it.  However, I am a TV on DVD addict so the runners-up are: The Closer, One Tree Hill, How I Met Your Mother, True Blood (quickly becoming the new Friends in number of references), Glee, and the original Charlie's Angels.

4. What's your favorite way to wake up and what's the first thing you do?

I love waking up early on my own.  Now I'm not talking 6 AM early, but like 8:30ish.  I like getting an early start on the day but if I am awaken by an alarm clock or by someone else (ahem Tom) it just takes me so much longer to wake up and I'm usually sometimes grumpy!  After I wake up, I take my vitamins and medicine and drink a cup of coffee and have breakfast (which I have been skipping the coffee and breakfast lately...I think I have been paying for the lack of caffeine with headaches).

5. What would you call yourself if you could choose your own name?

I actually love my name; although I am partial to Courtney Hill after 22 years! Dad wanted to name me either Desiree Latasha or Lydia and Mom wanted to name me either Courtney or Caroline.  You see who won that battle.  Hill is my mom's middle name, my grandmother's maiden name (now her middle name) and my great-grandmother's married last name.  When Tom and I get married, I am going to drop my last name to take his, but keep Courtney Hill because I just love that all of the women on my mom's side share that name.  If we are lucky enough to have a daughter in the future, I want to continue the tradition of giving her Hill as her middle name.

6. What's the worst/most embarrassing CD/album you've ever owned and do you still have it?

As much as it should embarrass me, I owned Spice Girl albums and Hanson albums (and went to both of their concerts).  However, I am not embarrassed by it because I absolutely loved them!!  Plus, don't you just get a smile on your face when "MmmmBop" or "Wannabe" comes on the radio??

I also had the Aqua cd with "Barbie Girl" on it...listened to it the other day (since I have loaded all of my music into iTunes forever ago) and realized how mature the lyrics to all of their songs are! Wow! I bought that cd when I was in like third grade!!

7. What would be your dream vehicle?

I always joke with Tom about how I want a "little car" for my next car but realize how impractical that is when I have a 60+ lb. dog! So my dream vehicle would be either an Equinox or Tahoe, preferably in black with tan interior.  A plus on my next car would be power seats, a sunroof, a CD player that was actually meant to come with the car, and heated seats (the Liberty is lacking these!).

8. What characteristics do you dislike in yourself?

I really need to work on having more patience! I seem to get frustrated very easily with things that I can't control in other people...I need to learn to just go with the flow!

9. Your favorite items of clothing and why?

My J. Crew jeans (white and regular), cowboy boots, Jack Rogers, and any fun t-shirt/tank!

10. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation where would it be and who would it be with?

I really, really want to go back to England (especially London) with Tom. When I went to England, Ireland, and Wales in high school, we only went for a week and that was not enough time to see three countries!!  I want to go back so bad!!  I also would like to go to Italy and Greece...one day!

11. What did you want to be when you were little and do you think you ever will be?

I played school with my sister every single day during the summer.  She was such a good sport (even when I failed her).  I still want to be a teacher and am trying to figure out the best way to get into the field since I don't have a teaching license!

12. What's the next planned event you're looking forward to in your life?

I really cannot wait to start planning our wedding!  Right now, though, its on the back-burner while Tom works at this internship with the Atlantic 10.  While it is a paid internship, it doesn't come with benefits and it would just be irresponsible for us to get married without having insurance!

13. What were you doing before you started this?

Watching Friends.

14. What was your favorite toy as a child...And now?

When I was little, I loved playing with Barbie Dolls and American Girl Dolls! I loved dressing them up and fixing their hair! I also loved dressing up and pretending to live in some other time period (favorites included Little House on the Prairie and Gone with the Wind).

Now, I love my iPhone, Nook (even though I am still trying to figure it all out!), computer, camera, make-up...my "toys" have gotten more expensive!!  I love playing with my furbaby Elli...she is so much fun to go swimming with or play catch with!

15. When was the last time you cried laughing and why?

The other day listening to Tom laugh.  Tom has a normal guy's voice...low pitched, ya know?  But I kid you not, when he laughs it gets high and squeaky.  He does a "fake laugh" most of the time that matches his normal speaking voice, but when he is really laughing he switches to this high laugh.  It is the funniest thing I have ever witnessed.  He had his mom, brother, and me rolling on the floor laughing! OH, and he snorts, too!!

16. What is stashed under your bed/mattress?

Three bins of shoes, one bin of long-sleeved shirts, and apparently guns/ammo (remember, I'm living with Tom's family in their guest bedroom).  They kid that I have the safest room in the house, but I highly doubt that I could figure out which ammo goes in which gun and how in the world to load it!! (Although they did teach me to shoot over Christmas last year!)

17. What did you dream about last night?

I don't remember my dreams last night...I either have very vivid "movie dreams" (I really need to write them down...they would make great movies because they are so real) or I don't remember my dreams at all!

18. What are you really afraid of?

Losing people I love. Vomit (had a panic attack a few weeks ago when Trevor thought he was getting carsick while we were going through the Bay Bridge Tunnel).

Not two things you would usually group together!

I hope y'all learned something new about me! Feel free to use this if you want!!

Don't forget to link up with me for Monday's Style File!  I'm going to schedule it to post tomorrow night so y'all can get a full day to post!! :)

Sweet Puppies

The other night, Tom and I went to bed through Trevor's room to tell him goodnight and love on the puppies before bed.  Trevor was passed out when we went in there, but Elli hopped off his bed to see us and Simba came out of his crate for some attention.

I had to take some pictures because they were acting so sweet!

After lots of pictures, our little girl got sleepy and hopped back up in her spot with Trevor.  I miss her sleeping with me!

I hope y'all have a great Thursday!

Weekend Recap! {A Little Bit Late}

I have been so lazy this week and haven't gotten around to posting about our long-weekend home!  Well, I finally decided that I needed to get my act together and upload my camera pictures/e-mail my iPhone pictures so that I could post a weekend recap of our time in Lexington!

{Thursday}

Tom and I left Virginia Thursday afternoon.  Boy, was it hot!  The thermostat in the car read 102 degrees, but I think it was even hotter!

{With an action shot of Tom driving and my pink Otterbox!}
I convinced Tom to stop at Sephora in Burlington (which as on the way) so I could possibly pick up the Naked Palette, which I have been wanting for a long time!  They had it in the store which made me so incredibly happy! The woman said that they have had the hardest time keeping it in stock!!

(I think I'm going to do a review of this product later this week...it does not disappoint, though!)

Mom surprised me with dinner and a birthday cake when we arrived at home!

{If for some strange reason you are ever in Lexington, you must go by Fancy Pastry...they make the best icing in the entire world!!}

{Friday}

Friday was extremely busy for us!  Tom had a job interview in Greensboro and I had a dermatologist appointment in High Point at the same time.  My sister went with me to my appointment so Tom wouldn't feel guilty for me going to my surgical appointment alone.  I was extremely anxious about my appointment and Tom's interview, so my nerves were racing when we got to the appointment.  My appointment was with the PA since he was the one that first took off my mole a month ago.  The pathology reports came back reporting "atypical" cells that needed a conservative surgical removal.  I was extremely naive when it came to thinking about how much they would be removing.  The PA made my sister watch the beginning of the surgical removal and she told me that the spot he was taking out looked like a football shape.  Mattie could not handle the blood and almost passed out right after he first started cutting--they had to pause to get her a Coke! Poor Mattie!  She was trying to calm me down by rubbing my leg telling me everything would be okay and then she almost passed out!!

After my appointment, Mattie and I went to lunch at Panera!  I love Panera!  We both got Chicken Caesar Sandwiches and their new frozen strawberry lemonades to drink.  It was so yummy!!

Mattie had a swim meet when we got back in to town and I dropped her by the house to get ready while I went uptown to the bank and to stop by to see my grandmother.  I think the numbing medicine and my adrenaline were keeping me from hurting because that night I was in some serious pain!!

In good news, though, Tom got a call from the Atlantic 10 offering him the paid internship!!  It is near his parents' house and is a ten-month position.  So, it looks like we will be living with his parents for a little longer!  Now, I just have to figure out what I want to do...suggestions??

For dinner we went to Don Juan's for Mexican! I have been on a HUGE avocado kick lately and we got the "table-side" guacamole...it was so delicious and hit the spot!

{Saturday}

Saturday we kept everything pretty low-key.  My "boo-boo" was really bothering me so I just laid on the couch with a frozen bag of peas and watched Grey's Anatomy on Instant-View Netflix.  I did, however, start cleaning up my room at my mom's house.  My sister took over my original room when I got my apartment in college and her old room (my new room) has never been gone through (so basically Mattie had two rooms and all my stuff was boxed up/scattered around in odd corners).  I made good headway on it and you can actually walk through the room now!  Clutter seriously bothers me!

I was finally allowed to shower after 24 hours and remove the bandage...don't look at this picture if you are squeamish!

{Nine stitches...ouch!}
Mom cooked Lemon Chicken, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Broiled Okra, Creamed Corn, and Candied Carrots for dinner! It was so yummy! I told her that was what I wanted for my "birthday dinner."

{Sunday}

Sunday morning, we met Dad out at Richard Childress' Vineyard for brunch with his side of the family for my birthday.  Oh my goodness, is it gorgeous out there!  Another huge bonus of this place is that they have wine slushies!  They were too die for!  The kind that I had was "Peach" which tasted almost like a Wallaby Darn...I cannot wait to go back for another one!

{And you got to keep the cool cup!}
I got to open all of my birthday gifts while we were there!  My aunt Joni (who was in town last time we were home) left me a gift with M and Poppop--she got me the Vera Bradley Hello Dahlia large makeup bag that I wanted!  Dad and Betsy got me a bottle of wine, a jar of pickles (I have a serious addiction to pickles), a bottle of lotion, and the large Vera Bradley Hello Dahlia Duffle Bag.  M and Poppop gave me Ahava lotion (which is great for sensitive skin!), Ahava shower gel, and Ahava bar soap.  They also gave me a beautiful bright purple "purse"makeup case and money for a new Longchamp purse.  I was definitely doted upon!!

Since the Vineyard was so pretty, some of us stuck around for pictures!

Saturday afternoon, Tom and I rode down to Belk's to pick up some Clinique makeup.  I got the new Moisture Surge tinted moisturizer and concealer (I might review this as well coming up).

After going to Belk's, we swung by Wal-Mart to pick up a fan.  My room at mom's is so HOT! There is only one air vent in the room and it just doesn't work well enough!  Well, let me tell you, this fan is perfect! It was actually COLD using it!! :)

Best $20 we ever spent!!

For dinner, Mark grilled steaks and baked fish...a very good meal!

{Monday}

Monday morning I had a dentist appointment to pick up my night guard.  It was a pretty uneventful appointment, thank goodness! I couldn't take much more this weekend!

After lunch with my mom (where she ordered my Nook...yay!), we hit the road to head back to Virginia.

It was definitely a whirlwind weekend!  My "boo-boo" is still very swollen and bruised, but I should hopefully hear back the results this week.  I really hope they don't have to go back in to take out more!

But some little girl sure missed her mommy and daddy!

{She's laying in between my legs on my bed!}
I hope everyone has a great Wednesday!
