I Love Surprises!

My day did not start off very well--my back car window would not roll up and when I went around to inspect it, but car door would not open!! It took Tom and I both, one inside pushing on the door and the other outside pulling on the door, to get it to open up!! It looks like a piece of the "innards" of the car had snapped off and gotten lodged in the childlock mechanism...oh Mondays...
Early last week I sold an item on Ebay and ended up getting some extra money in my paypal account. Now I know you can transfer that money into your checking account, but I thought "hey, why not browse around etsy and see what I can find!" Low and behold, I found a microwavable heating pad that was not only cute, but also affordable and had lavender in it (the most relaxing and comforting smell...EVER!). I quickly ordered it and was left with leftover money in my paypal account that I can transfer over into my checking account, being the responsible person I am!
I got confirmation that the package had been shipped out Friday, but I did not expect to find it in my mailbox today when I got home from class!
Adding to that surprise, I also found a package from my grandmother containing the new Real Simple Weddings issue! She said that she had bought it before Tom and I had decided to postpone our wedding, but I am so glad that she sent it to me--I needed some new inspiration to re-vamp my planning!!
I hope everyone had a great Monday!!

Old School Survey

This survey is courtesy of Katie over at Life in the Fulmer Lane. I thought it was funny and a good way to for y'all to find out a little about me! I am going to edit some of the questions out just for time and space reasons, but feel free to check out her original post her and steal this survey (abridged or unabridged) for your own blog!!

Birthplace? Lexington, NC

Current Location? Burlington/Elon, NC

Hometown? Well...I guess for now that would be Lexington and Burlington since I technically have "homes" in both (but it will all change after graduation!)

Nationality? Extremely fair sister got all the tan genes

Eye color? Baby Blue

Hair color? Brown-headed currently...toe-headed as a baby/toddler

Height? 5'6"

Glasses or contacts? Both, unfortunately I am in denial about both.

Piercings or tattoos? I have my ears pierced; I am not fond of pain or needles, sorry.

Single or taken? Engaged to my amazing fiancé, Tom

Sibling names? Only one sister: Mattie Sue (we are Southern...I'm Courtney Hill)

Right Handed or Left Handed? Right Handed, except for how I stand- which I don't know if it necessarily has to do with handedness. When I have surfed, snow boarded, or shot a gun I stand "goofy" or as I call it "screwy."

Any pets? My furbaby Elli Belly who we rescued two years ago this Spring!

Your greatest strength? Family.

Your greatest weakness? Hard-headedness and procrastination.

Your parents names? Mom, Dad, Markie Poo or Paw Paw Markie (sorry, Mark)

Favorite color? Aqua

Favorite flower? Hydrangeas

Favorite college basketball team? Depends on who in my family I am with when you ask me: Dad and his sister went to NC State, Mom went to Salem, her dad went to Duke, my uncle went to Wake Forest, Mark went to UNC, and Tom is a H-U-G-E Duke fan. I guess my alliance goes to Tom and the Duke Blue Devils.

Favorite Holiday? It is a tie between Halloween and Christmas. I love all of the scary movies on television over Halloween! However, I love Christmas because I get to spend a lot of time with my family!

Favorite physical feature on yourself? My dimples and my blue eyes (everyone else in my immediate family has brown or hazel colored eyes).

Your favorite pizza topping? I like cheese but Tom likes pepperoni, so I make my pizza naked.

Favorite alcoholic drink of choice? I like frozen girly drinks but if I'm at my apartment I LOVE Wild Cherry Mike's Hard Lemonade. (I do NOT like any beer and only a few wines, hence the girly, fruity "beer")

Favorite guilty pleasure? Chocolate. Reality TV.

Your favorite lunch meat? ummm...I've never been a big lunch meat fan or a PB&J fan either. When I was little, disgustingly enough, I ate butter sandwiches with the crusts cut off (my pediatrician actually fixed these for me, I was friends with his daughter). I then became fancy schmancy and ate cucumber sandwiches with the crust cut off--which is still my favorite go-to sandwich!

Favorite thing to do with your guy? I love spending time with Tom doing anything. We can be walking around Target or having a nice dinner, I just love being able to talk and be with him.

Favorite place to eat a romantic dinner? Is this on a college budget or with infinite amounts of money? Let's assume the latter...I absolutely love going to the Melting Pot. It is so yummy and intimate. For those of you that have never been, you start out with a cheese fondue of your choice, then go on to the main course (which you get to cook at your table!), and then finally, my favorite, the chocolate fondue desert! So good!

Favorite season? I really, honestly love all four seasons but I am partial to summer...especially after the winter we have had!

Favorite cartoon character? Scooby Doo and Cinderella

Your favorite food? Can this be my favorite meal(s)? I love my mom's lemon chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and her spaghetti and garlic bread (not at the same time). Her spaghetti is the only spaghetti sauce that I will eat.

Favorite ice cream flavor? Ben and Jerry's Phish Food and Banana Split. Yum.

Favorite subject(s) in school? Well seeing that I'm a history major, English literature minor I'm going to have to go with Math and Science...just kidding. I have always been a history and literature nerd.

Favorite candy? Hershey bars and Trolli gummy worms

Favorite breakfast cereal? Depends on the mood I'm in, but definitely kid cereals: I love Trix, Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Frosted Flakes with either bananas or strawberries cut up in it. But, I never eat cereal at home. I've been on a granola with yogurt kick the last couple of weeks.

Favorite person in your life? Tom, Elli (fur people count, right?), and my family.

Favorite book of all time? Gone with the Wind, even though I haven't read the whole thing yet. Other than that (which probably shouldn't count) I enjoy reading James Patteron's Women's Murder Club book series.

Favorite song? I have over 2200 songs on my I really have to pick one?

Your favorite park? I assume this means theme park and I'm going to have to go with Disney World!

Favorite place to be? Disney World or the beach.

Your favorite sport to watch on tv? I take really good football naps.

Favorite TV show? If you have read any of my previous posts, you know that I'm a TV addict. However, my two favorites would have to be Friends and How I Met Your Mother.

Your favorite number? Probably 17- my birthday and our anniversary

Favorite fast food restaurant? Chick-fil-a

Who is your favorite Disney Princess? Cinderella: When I was 4, I dressed up like her for Halloween and refused to take it off. I wore it to preschool, the grocery store, and to bed.

What would you consider your favorite tv station? Depends on what I'm watching.

Favorite names for son/daughter? Have some ideas but am years away from using them yet!

What is your favorite part of your life right now? Enjoying my last couple of months of school (forever!) and enjoying being engaged to Tom. And laughing at my furbaby for anything and everything she does because she is just too darn cute!

Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate, but I do like chocolate syrup over vanilla ice cream!

Alcoholic or non? I'm not a huge fan of alcoholic beverages, so I'm going to have to go with non; but it depends on where I am and what I am doing.

Scary movies or comedies? I honestly like them both, but my genre of choice is scary. But, not when I'm home alone- then I'm comedy all the way!

Short or long hair? Definitely long hair. I am having serious issues with my hair as it is growing out; I swear it is getting thicker not longer!

Croutons or bacon bits? Ew, neither.

Beach or lake? Beach- I don't like that you can't see the bottom of a lake (probably from the fact that I have seen to many scary movies i.e. Friday the 13th!)

McDonalds or Burger King? McDonalds

Pepsi or Coke: Coke!

Starbucks or elsewhere? Starbucks, when I am not on a budget! Mmm Venti nonfat caramel latte!

Dogs or cats? Dogs, but I do love cats too. I actually had my kitten Duchess from 1st grade until spring break of my freshman year of college.

Do you sing? I love to sing, but never in front of people besides my family and Tom.

Do you want to get married? Hello...I'm engaged! I'm pretty sure the next step is marriage!

Do you get along with your parents? Yep

Do you want children? Yes, Tom and I absolutely want children in the future!

Do you drink? Yes

Do you like to travel by plane? Absolutely! Except it is scary when you fly by yourself for the first time (when you are 20) and have a layover in Atlanta and don't understand why there is a subway in the bottom!

Do you still watch cartoons? I am a Scooby Doo fanatic. I DVR the originals. I swear, my children will only be watching old-school cartoons, the new ones have too much violence and bad language/phrases I don't want to hear come out of my future little ones' mouths!

Have you ever fired a gun? Yes and it was so much fun! I told Tom that I had finally found something that I was good at!!

Have you ever loved someone? Why past tense?? I am in love with my fiance!

Have you ever been caught doing something you weren't supposed to? Hello...haven't I told y'all the story of when Tom and I first started talking at the party that got busted by campus police??

Have you ever cried for no reason? I believe that ever time I have cried it has been for a reason; even if it is extremely embarrassing-like the animal abuse commercials on tv set to the Sarah Mclaughlin song.

Have you ever cut your own hair? Yes, my bangs and I will never do it again. They were originally angled bangs, but ended up angling the wrong way when I was done with them. Oops!

What bill do you hate paying the most? Duke Energy is robbing me blind! Rent stinks too...I think they are robbing me too!

What did you want to be when you were growing up? A teacher or a lawyer.

How many colleges did you attend? Just the one--Elon!!

What errand/chore do you despise? Vacuuming just because ours is broken!

Maybe the Groundhog was Right!

It has been absolutely gorgeous here this weekend! Friday, Tom and I went on a nice, long walk which is one of my favorite things to do with him because we can actually talk without distractions (usually the television, laptops, or cell phone interrupt us!). After that, we went to the steakhouse on campus and got dinner. They have the best crab cakes ever AND we can use our meal plans there which means, essentially, a free date night! We topped that night off by watching Shaun of the Dead...this is one of my absolute favorite comedies! If you have not seen it, rent it! It's hilarious!

Yesterday, Tom was busy all day calling the Elon Women's basketball game for the radio station and then filming the Men's game. Fortunately, Elli and I took full advantage of the 70+ degree weather! We sat outside on our patio and I did work while Elli sunbathed and chased her ball around. Since Tom was busy all day and night, I met my mom, her boyfriend Mark, and my sister Mattie at a delicious pizza restaurant in Greensboro called Sticks and Stones. If you live around here, it is definitely worth a taste-test! We feasted, literally, on appetizers of "Friendly Fire" and "Rescue Blues" and then Mom, Mark, and Mattie split the "Firecracker" pizza and I got "To Be the One" with pepperonis on it! I just couldn't bring myself to eat the anchovies on the Firecracker so I got a little one for myself and to take back for Tom. At the end, we got two of the Peach and Walnut Cobblers with vanilla ice cream which were absolutely divine! Plus, they have Cheerwine which is the quickest way for a restaurant to forever endear themselves to my heart!

Unfortunately it is a little bit colder here today so we are catching up on a lot of our school work so that we can maybe not be quite as crazed around here as we were last week!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Seven Facts Award

Ainslee over at Love, Ainslee graciously tagged me with the "Seven Facts Award."

Basically, I list seven things about myself, award it to a fellow blogger, and link back to the blogger that originally awarded it to me!

Let's see...

1. I am engaged to a very handsome man, Tom, and we have an adorable fur-baby. We had previously decided to get married in June, but have now decided that we are going to wait a while after graduation so that we can get our feet firmly planted on the ground and have good jobs and be (somewhat) financially secure before we are husband and wife. We are planning on still living together, like we do now, so basically the only thing that is different is that we aren't going to be husband and wife until 2012...which is okay with me because I am just getting used to calling him my fiance!

2. My favorite movie of all time is Gone with the Wind. Tom has yet, in our three years together, to make it through the entirity of the film. I understand it is long, but I feel that if he is planning on committing the rest of his life to me, he needs to watch this film. Basically, I know that I was Scarlett O'Hara in my past life and my college essay was comparing myself with her. And, as previously mentioned in this post, my sister and I used to dress up to watch this movie. Good thing we are pushing the wedding back, it might take that long to make it through the movie!! :-)

3. My life revolves around my favorite television shows. All I can say is: Thank goodness for the invention of the DVR! I would miss all of my shows (which include, but are not limited to: How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, King of Queens, The Closer, Rizzoli and Isles, Cash & Cari (On HGTV), Everyday Italian, Giada at Home, Glee, Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, One Born Every Minute, Royal Pains, Fairly Legal, Better With You, Modern Family, Law and Order: SVU, Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Grey's Anatomy, Dear Genevieve (On HGTV) Rachael Ray talk show, The View, plus many, many more!). Honestly, without the DVR I don't know what I would do!

{Sources 1, 2, 3, 4}

4. I LOVE Chick-fil-a. My favorite thing to get there is their chicken salad sandwiches, lemonade, and a chocolate milkshake! So yummy! I am very picky when it comes to chicken salad; I don't like when it has to much mayonnaise in it, but Chick-fil-a gets it just right!

5. I love watching scary movies. Tom and I used to watch a whole lot more, but since we moved into the apartment I have been too big of a scaredy cat to watch a lot! However, I am easing back into them...we watched the new Nightmare on Elm Street and it was actually really, really good! Much better than the original! I cannot wait to go see Scream 4 in the spring!! If y'all have any suggestions on new scary movies that I might not have seen please let me know!

6. I love nothing more than taking a hot bubble bath and reading a good book. My favorite genre of books is mystery and my favorite series is the Women's Murder Club by James Patterson. The newest of his books comes out this spring and I cannot wait to read it! The one last spring really got me with the ending and I love when I can't guess the endings! (I also watched this TV show on ABC when it came on a few years ago, but ABC put it on on Friday nights in the worst time slot and it failed :-( still makes me sad!)

7. Tom and I are meeting his family in Orlando in April. I am so excited to go to Disney World! I haven't been since ninth grade when I went with my mom and sister. We had such a great time! I think it is impossible to have a bad time, though, when you are at Disney!! (We also went to Universal Studios, too, but we aren't going there this time...even though I am dying to go to the Harry Potter World!! Next time!

{Goodness me, look how little my sister was and how blonde my hair was! Ah!}

I tag Shelli over at Everyday Everharts and Ashley atLife After the Aisle!!

Southern Picture Frame

I have been wanting to show y'all one of my Christmas presents, but keep forgetting to take a picture of it! Thoughtless Thursday is the perfect day to do it!

My dad and his girlfriend gave one of these picture frames to me and one to my sister for Christmas. It was absolutely one of my favorite gifts!! Unfortunately I haven't found the right picture for it yet...Betsy told me it has to be something "southern." My sister and I joked that we would have to pull out our hoopskirts for a picture (don't laugh, I used to maker her and me dress up to watch Gone with the Wind and then we would go play Little House on the Prairie in our neighbors playhouse...I was in middle school). We were totally kidding about a picture in the costumes now! I don't even think we could fit in them!

Oh and the dried hydrangeas behind them were part of the flower arrangements at our engagement party but they were so pretty I just couldn't throw them out!!

I'm Such a Proud Big Sissy!

Sadly, my work schedule hasn't allowed me the flexibility to be able to keep up with the "hecticness" that is final semester of my senior year and attend family functions that I so wish I could. I made the decision a few weeks ago that my time as a server and bartender had finally come to an end. I needed to allow myself the last few months of my schooling career to enjoy my family, being engaged, and focus on graduating with good grades and enjoying my little family here! So far, I think it has been a great decision. I am way less stressed and actually have time to get all of my work done! And I have been cooking dinner every night! Previously, I had rarely even used my kitchen!

Friday night, Tom and I made the journey over to High Point to my old high school (well K-12, but oh well!) to see my sister cheer in their last home game of the year! I was so proud! When I went to Westchester, I cheered from sixth grade through junior year. My biggest regret is that I did not cheer my final year there, I know I will never be able to change that, but it still hurt :-(.

Cheerleading was probably the highlight of my high school career. I loved all the girls I cheered with and I enjoyed supporting the girls and boys basketball teams. Plus, the boys were really AWESOME when I back to back to back state champions! I know the debate is out there whether or not cheerleading is a sport, but all I am going to say on that issue is that I tore my rotator cuff, had plenty of bloody noses from girls landing on me, chased girls across the gym and caught them on the ground to break their fall, and have seen countless other injuries. I knew that I would much rather make running leaps to save the girls from hitting the floor than have to run laps or do push ups/sit ups if they hit the ground!

{I'm the fourth from the right on the bottom}

{My flyer and me}
{Yes, my hair is crazy corkscrew curly! If we had big games, we would actually wear our rollers to school. Mortifying, I know! Oh, and don't get me started on those itty, bitty over-plucking!}
{She was about to do a jump, but isn't she pretty!! I'm so proud!}

After the games, we went out to eat at a yummy local pizza place. On the way there, Tom burst out laughing and told me I had to pull into the parking lot we were pacing. Without question, I pulled off of the road and wanted to know what was so funny! I looked at the local Badcock and More store and they had some unfortunate light outage (the "B" and the "d"). Needless to say, it was pretty funny! We sure have a mature sense of humor!

Dinner was excellent and my sister and I had the table rolling with laughter telling stories of when we were younger. Mom swears she had never heard any of the stories, but I promise she has! Maybe the "traumatic" events were still too fresh to be funny!
I hope everyone has had a great week!!

I know, two posts in one day after not posting for a while! Wow!

Well, one of my classes that I am taking (to satisfy a requirement for graduation) is Vampires in Literature, Film, and Television. I have a confession to make: I have never read or seen the Twilight series or True Blood. The last thing that I have actively participated in relating to vampires was Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I must admit...LOVE that show.
Well, we watched the opening sequence of True Blood yesterday in class and it actually seemed really good! My question to you guys is...have you seen True Blood? Is it worth being in my Netflix queue??

Recipe Time!!

Sorry I've not been blogging a lot recently--winter term ended last week and Tom, Elli, and I went up to visit his parents. But, I'm back in the swing of things, classes started Tuesday, and I'm ready to go!! Last semester before I graduate (and get married!)...YAY!!! For Thoughtless Thursday I thought I would post a go-to recipe in our household. It is from the Charity League of Lexington Cookbook called Tastes of the Town and was originally published in 1969. It is a cool cookbook because my grandmother and her friends actually had some of their own recipes published in it! My family has taken some liberties with the recipe and I have also changed some things up for ease as well as Tom's taste buds! Enjoy!!

Hamburger Pie

-1 lb hamburger
-1 can of green beans (the original recipe calls for 1 package frozen green beans, but canned is so much easier!)
-1 can tomato soup
-6 medium potatoes
-1 Yellow Onion (Tom's mom actually makes this and uses a vidalia onion, but I do not like sweet onions!)
-Salt and Pepper

1. **My Change** Sautee onion in extra virgin olive oil until lightly browned. (Tom doesn't like the taste of raw-ish onions so I just cook them down) Remove onions from the pan.
2. Brown hamburger in butter in the same pan.
3. Add salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce (to taste) and the sauteed onions.
4. Add one can of tomato soup and one can of green beans (again, if you want to use frozen, go for it)
5. Put in greased casserole and top with mashed potatoes.
6. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
Bake in 350 degree oven until cheese is slightly browned.

Trust me, this recipe is so delicious and so southern!
