Valentine's Day Post

I originally wanted to do a Valentine's Day post on or before Valentine's Day but with how busy work was I did not get around to it until now, which is very belated! However, I feel that Valentine's Day should be every day and that you should celebrate your love every day!
My most memorable Valentine's Day would be my first V-day with Tom. It was February 13th and we were spending the night studying away in the library (You see before I started working, I actually had time to study!). We left the library just after midnight (so now it was Valentine's!) and it had begun snowing lightly across the campus. We spent the next two hours walking around the campus and having a few snowball fights all the while taking photographs so we could always remember that night! Here is my favorite shot of the night...you can even see a snowflake falling right in front of Tom's eye!

This year, Tom and I had a very low-key Valentine's Day (we celebrated the Saturday before because I had to work all day on V-day!). We just went to a late lunch at Moe's (it is our favorite restaurant, don't laugh, I know it's not very romantic but it's so darn good!) and watched movies at home.

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day and I hope that you spend every day being appreciative that you have found someone that makes every day Valentine's day!

Top 5 Beauty Favorites!

It has been a while since I last posted (as Mom pointed out to me yesterday), but it has been a busy week! I have a lot I want to say but I will just do my top 5 beauty favorites for the time being!

And without further ado...

1. Mary Kay Timewise 3-in-1 Cleanser and Age Fighting Moisturizer
This cleanser has a light exfoliant but is very gentle for my extremely dry skin. The lotion followup is an extremely moisturizing follow-up to the cleanser and it is now a part of my beauty regimen morning and night!

2. Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Shampoo and Conditioner

Even though I have shorter hair now, I LOVE this shampoo/conditioner duo. It smells amazing and leaves my hair silky-smooth! A definite must-have in the shower!

3. Pink Venus Embrace Razor

Who wouldn't enjoy a pink razor?!

4. Ahava Mineral Body Lotion

This lotion is excellent for extremely dry skin! When I used to have very bad eczema, this would sooth the itching and I still use it today!

5. Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth Deodorant in Nature Fresh and Mary Kay perfume in Exotic Passionfruit

The deodorant smells very good and I can actually tell that it is making my underarms more smooth and the perfume smells decadent!

I have so much more to post, but not enough time; I have to run to class! More to come later!

Rainy Day aka a Lazy Tuesday

Today was a pretty uneventful day, primarily because it was a seriously drizzly day outside and all I wanted to do was curl up in bed with my puppy dog! I consider only hitting the snooze button my alarm clock (aka my Blackberry) six times, gaining me a whole 30 extra minutes of glorious sleep.
I had two classes today. Being a history major, all of my classes are history (obviously). My classes today were "America's Civil War" and "America's Civil Rights Movement." On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I have "Slavery and Resistance." So, pretty much I am covering every period of Black history within the United States. I am finally enjoying my history major at Elon; before now, I had been stuck taking ancient histories of worlds that I can hardly imagine. American history is by far my "expertise," I love that I can pretty much walk outside and actually SEE our history all around us. I received a startling e-mail yesterday from the head of the history department of Elon saying that the North Carolina public school system is considering dropping "United States history to 1877" from their curriculum. Their justification is that they want to use that time to "looking forward" within the United States. How ridiculous is that?? History is not about looking forward, but about reflecting on the past and perhaps learning from past mistakes to make the future a better place for our children to grow up in. I could not IMAGINE not learning about our forefathers, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the bravery and strength it took to fight against the British, and then the audacity of the Southern states to succeed from the Union and somehow the country got put back together. Okay, enough of my ranting about how the public school system is going down the tubes...
Elli has a new habit that I don't know if I find endearing or annoying. She has become a picky eater. She will go in the kitchen and pick up a piece of her dog food, spit it back out onto the carpet in the living room, pick it back up, chew on it, spit it back out, and then pick up the tiny pieces and FINALLY swallow them. Tom and I have tried mixing in wet food with her food and even went as far as putting her dry food into a food processor, but she still does the same thing! It is very cute though because after she has finally ingested her one piece of food, she notices that Tom and myself are watching her and she starts doing her infamous "butt wiggle" and comes and smothers us with kisses! It is hard to be mad or stay mad at such a loving "person"!!!

Hello Blog World!

I am going to try out this blogging thing and see where it takes me. I feel like this is going to be a good outlet so my friends and family can see what is going on with my life since I am not as close to home as I would like to be!

So, to catch everyone up, here are 10 things about me that you should know, if you already don't!
  1. I think my puppy is the cutest, smartest, and most loving dog in the world! Elli came to us as an underfed, scared puppy and we have turned her into a healthy, potty trained, 65-pound one-year old dog. She can sit, shake with her right then her left paw, lay down, "show me her belly," and then roll "all the way" over (even though she does not like the latter, but we are working on it!)
  2. I am very family-oriented! Even though I am no longer living in the same town as pretty much all of my family, I am in constant contact with them. From sweet cards from my grandmother, to constant phone calls from my daddy, to surprise visits from my mom, I always feel very connected and loved by my large family.
  3. I have worked at Outback Steakhouse for over a year now and I have lost all taste for any kind of steak! I used to want steak at least once a week and now I can hardly stand the sight or the smell!! (Their salads are really good though, so I guess I have a healthier alternative now!)
  4. I am so lucky to have found my boyfriend, Tom. Over the past two years that we have been together, I have realized that not only have I found my best friend, but I have also found the person that I can rely on to tell me when I am being absolutely ridiculous, ESPECIALLY when I am constantly taking on my "apartment-improvements" than I can handle.
  5. I LOVE Target! I mean, I unnaturally love Target! Luckily, I live in very close proximity to the Target in my city, so I can satisfy my constant need to go make sure that the items I am "watching" have not gone on sale yet! Leading me to my next point...
  6. I LOVE shopping sales! Tom will tell you, I hardly ever buy anything that is full-priced. If I ever do break down and buy something that at full retail-price, I will kick myself when I go back to the store later and see that it has been discounted by 75%! So, I try, try, try not to ever pay full price for any item!
  7. I have a problem "stalking" celebrity news websites. I am the person in the checkout line that is feverishly reading the latest "People Magazine" or other silly "news" magazine for the latest gossip in Hollywood.
  8. I have a Twitter account but I do not use it. Instead, I use it to follow my favorite celebrities to see what their daily lives are like. Surprisingly, despite their much larger bank accounts than I could ever dream of, their lives are not much different than my own.
  9. I am a very loving and emotional person. I cannot go see dramas or watch any news report that has potential to pull at my heartstrings. The animal cruelty commercials are the worst! If Tom does not change the channel quickly, I will immediately start tearing up!
  10. I count my lucky stars every day for the fateful meeting of Tom and myself and then the addition of little Elli Belly into our lives. I am a very fortunate person to have found everything I could have ever dreamed of at a relatively young age and know exactly what I want in my life and appreciate that I have an "old soul" for my 20-year-old self!
